The main aim of this site is to promote Vietnamese democracy and freedom, something that the Vietnamese people have lost for more than 35 years.  Enjoy!

To be a little clear: The people in the South have lost it for 35 years, but the people in the North have NEVER had it! After the French colonists then came the VCs right in 1954. People in the North simply have not yet had the taste of Freedom and Democracy as the people in the South once did. Hope you don’t mind, man!

Hey, have you heard about the “newly” discovered cave in the central region of VietNam? It’s called Hang Sơn Đoòng and is the world’s largest cave. It can fit an entire New York City block of 40-story buildings. It also has it own jungle. I think you should check it out.
It won’t be long until the dear government make use of this cave and do whatever they need to make money from it.

  3. I tumbled across your website while trying to look for an English version of “free Viet Khang” to refer friends to and LOVE it. Thank you for doing such a good job. Keep it up. I have forwarded to my children who have grown up with the language and love Vietnam.

  4. Freedom and democracy after the strict utopian american ideal has never existed in Vietnam. In fact very rarely has it existed anywhere.
The south was no democracy. It was a puppet government that had rigged elections, was dominated by a catholic minority, and was far more corrupt than the north.
Conversely freedom and democracy are aims, not absolutes. America continues to abuse human rights across the board- their treatment of “terrorist” suspects under de facto indefinite imprisonment, use of torture stand testimony to this.
200 years ago Vietnam was an absolute monarchy. It was an absolute monarchy with a highly trained and effective civil serivce and comparively good standards, but that’s what vietnam is again today.
Democracy after the western fashion as faults, google what is presently happening in Australia and you will see what i mean. it is a luxury, that not everyone can afford especially in the developing world.
I am not defending the vietnamese government. i find their actions detestable, and their breaches of human rights undeniable. But your assumptions about human nature, in particular the incoruptiability of a democratic government and the evilness of the communist one tend to stretch one’s tolerance.

    • “The south was no democracy. It was a puppet government that had rigged elections, was dominated by a catholic minority, and was far more corrupt than the north.”

      1. The South Vietnam goverment is a democratic goverment, even though a very young democracy. It had oppositions. Any goverment requires time to mature.

“and was far more corrupt than the north”:

2.You need to look at how bad the goverment of the communist of Vietnam today is before you make this comment. There were absolute no information about the goevernment of the North does not mean the North was not corrupted. They were far more than corrupted. They tertorized any persons who commented about the Communist goverment. In fact, they killed any intellectual who they thought knew what they did.

There were corruptions in the South, however, most cases were legally dealt with. And many cases were just accuses from the oppositions or the American media who do not like to support the South. The ordinary people of the South had school, hospital, and a job. Most of the people from the North were found numb when they discovered how prosperous the south was after 1975. You know the song” You liberated me or I liberated you”

3.”Conversely freedom and democracy are aims, not absolutes. America continues to abuse human rights across the board- their treatment of “terrorist” suspects under de facto indefinite imprisonment, use of torture stand testimony to this.”

Any one looking for “absolute” freedom and demaracy is stupid such as the idealist and communists. You know what I mean. But the only way to better human lives is to obtain freedom and democracy for her people. Democracy will minimize corruption.

Terrorists who killed innocent people deserved worse than being abused. Students who demonstrated peacefully were met with tanks in China. People who sang and protested for patriotic reasons were jailled without trial in Vietnam. Do you see the difference now?

“Democracy after the western fashion as faults, google what is presently happening in Australia and you will see what i mean. it is a luxury, that not everyone can afford especially in the developing world.”

4.It only happened in democratic world and it is good for the people. They will resolve thier differences peacefully by election. Democracy is the idea of Greek people. The western world can apply to improve their lives why not other nations. You are racist here. The only persons who do not want democracy are the rulers of totalitarian nations. Those rulers would loose their absolute power in a democratic society.

A person with ordinary intelligence can recognize the aboves. I hope you can too.

Per this specific comment of yours, …”America continues to abuse human rights across the board- their treatment of “terrorist” suspects under de facto…”
How do you identify a “non-terrorist”, “quasi-terrorist” and just plain ole’ “terrorists”, please explain your definition.

    • I agree with your views that the south was not “free” like the author of this page states. During its very short existence VNCH was ruled by the catholic dog that is Ngo Dinh Diem then by corrupt general after corrupt general. VNCH enjoyed investment and support from the west many allies, and it economy boomed because of all this support something that the our northern brothers did not have a chance to enjoy. When you take away the support south vietnam was a weak pitiful cripple. The waste of life that was spent to protect the interest of the Diem and the generals of South vietnam is just a big of waste as the life spent by the communists to “liberate” vietnam in the name of Marxism. We would stop holding VNCH so high and as the model of a free vietnam and focus on getting the china loving communists out of Vietnam!.

please provide the “take away” to prove your point vnch was a “weak pitiful cripple” with respect to education, morality, economy, law and order and so on.
